call me MAYbe.

yes i love that song. yes i'm just going to blog the entire month of may in one post . yes i'm just going to blog most of the pictures i instagrammed (plus a few i didn't) that month since those pictures were pretty much the highlights anyway. and yes i just realized i haven't even blogged about my utah trip and that was in may so i guess i'm not blogging all of may and it makes sense now why i had so few pictures aaaand yes i just got overwhelmed.

anyway hi! just doing my part to get all caught up.
when i look at these photos i am blown away that some of you don't know about any of these things, they feel like they happened forever ago! when i returned from dc my boss left a nice surprise on my desk of four chicks that said "please play with the chicks. they need to get used to people" (!!!) i was thrilled about this.

may 5. cinco de mayo.
this day was celebrated with cleaning out a food pantry for a food bank (and finding the best/creepy clown), a going away party thrown for our friend complete with great mexican dishes and a pinata, and a midnight full moon sail on the charles (river). thank you mexican friends for giving us all a random day to celebrate random things and say it is in the name of your victory!

I have felt so sad that all the blossoms are dying but this one house looked like it was raining flowers and instead of feeling sad i felt magical.

aaaaaand then one time my boss brought in two baby gosling to add to our collection of chicks! i was so happy to let them swim around in the sink the few days they were with us (they got too huge to stay very long) and i laughed so hard at everyone's under-their-breath made comments about sanitary because let's be real, i could have cared less about that.

sometimes i see the best little tots on the subway..i am on the subway quite a bit so i felt my time there should be highlighted.

may was way serious about it's rain showers. it rained SO much and all of the streets are pretty uneven so there are huge puddles everywhere when it rains. this is nice for rain boots, but not for the guy standing next to you when you are wearing those rain boots.

one night john and i went for a stroll around the south end and it was a DREAM. the weather was perfect, it was that perfect time of day right before the sun goes down, and the south end is as close to perfect as a neighborhood can get, i think.

we then made our way over to the boston public gardens and the view above made me gasp it was just so pretty. i couldn't stop staring at how great everything looked as the sun set over the pond so we just sat on a bench and watched it until the sun had gone completely down. my only regret of this time was being so mesmerized by the sunset i couldn't bring myself to take a video of the lady doing sensual dance hula-hooping next to us. when i finally went to capture it she was gone! it was such a shame.

later that night i remembered it was eat what you want day and i was SO HAPPY.
a. i was happy there is such a day as eat what you want day
and
b. earlier i had mentioned we were near the north end and we should get a cannoli and john refused saying that we got them too much and we needed to be nicer to our bodies.
BUT
once he knew what day it was he could not resist my whining and eventually we made our way to mike's. we also got pad thai that night, so my eat what you want day was complete.

before grace and dave moved back to new york (tears) we went on a walk together one saturday afternoon. they are enjoying figuring out the whole parenting thing and i enjoy the fact that they are now parents.

our roommate erica got her masters degree! this same erica is crazy talented and is having a MUSICAL SHE WROTE HERSELF performed in nyc next week. more on that later i'm sure.

i made shepherd's pie! and it didn't even taste gross.
even though erica is very talented she is a bit spacey and decided to invite all four single wards to our home for a games night in celebration of all the graduates. unfortunately she didn't think about the part where it was sunday and we would need games and/or snacks for our guests. don't worry though. i pulled through with some microwave popcorn and some month old easter candy. i'm sure everyone who came felt like we were the best hostesses.

that same night we remembered we live by the ocean and decided to take a drive on the coast and stroll the beach. the fact that matt had a jeep with its top down and a PA system made this activity ten times more amusing than it would have been otherwise.

i'm still being the bbq girl, except for some times i get sick of calling it a bbq so for may we had a fiesta instead. it seemed appropriate to wear my fiesta/swiss days/ethnic party outfit and i think it was a success! another success would be forcing the other megan (pictured below) to be my friend (we are both assistants for our boss daniel), for when i first started working with her i'm almost positive she hated my guts.

in may i had this awful habit of falling asleep completely clothed and waking up in the exact position i fell asleep in. this is just a hunch, but maybe i should start going to bed a little earlier?

i'm posting this because 1. i liked the sugar packet cat holder and 2. cheese fries always make me sick but i actually liked these ones! it was the raspberry chipotle sauce that did it for me i think.

at work we have a dalmation dog named basie. i think it is a boy but i always feel confused because his name makes him sound like a girl. also worth noting, one of my co-worker's child had some mad sidewalk chalk skills and drew this piece of art - "light up the world with your dragonfire".
..i think if we all took that advice to heart the world would be a better place.

two things i liked alot -
this way cool sunbeam sunset and baby alta. i didn't realize this was the last time i would see that little gal before they moved! i need to go to nyc soon so i can love on her again. those cheeks!

the best find of may would definitely be this hidden magical forest next to the temple. on the left side of the temple is a freeway and on the right side is this piece of magic, who knew?!

to close i would like to share this picture/story.
boy in the suit definitely came up to me at church and asked me if i had been on a mission. i said yes. were you in the mtc in the fall of 2008? i said yes. his response - "i was in the mtc at that time too! the elders in my district and i thought you were totally hot but we couldn't flirt with you so instead we asked you to take our picture and you did. and then you turned the camera around and took a picture of yourself before handing it back. we loved that picture."
yikes.
..i definitely did not remember this story (yet at the same time i could see myself doing that so i'm sure it is true) but appreciated his willingness to seem like a total creep and approach me randomly. i just have to say this to him though, never again tell a story about your time in the mtc with the words "hot" and "flirt" in it. reeeeally poor move on your part.

and now i guess we begin the one million utah pictures! yee-haw.

i went to the district of columbia : day five

or should i say day last day. :(

day five docket:
eat a nice breakfast provided by the one and only dot chon
a session at the DC temple
CAFE RIO
unique thrift store, again
some random mall
airport

..i think we had big touristy dreams of going back into the heart of DC but we were just too tired.

this breakfast was such a little treat. beth is the best planner and puts so much thought into the smallest of details. she threw the best parties at the yellow house! i miss those dang parties.

anyway. the temple was SO good. so so good. i usually don't go wild over the inside of temples (kind of feels like if you have seen one you have seen them all) but the inside of the DC temple is probably my favorite.  from the long window from floor to ceiling hallway to the malificent's castle looking stained glass to the paintings of some moments in america's history, everything about it dazzled me. yes, dazzled. and the stadium seating in the endowment room helped me not fall asleep so good! i'm very glad we made this happen, it was easily one of my favorite things about my trip.

just your classic picture of a utah girl with her sweet pork salad. it was delicious, and definitely worth the drive. but for the record, i'm still a costa vida lover through and through.

had to go back to the biggest thrift store of my life. beth and i had such a nice time going through all of the treasures. i don't know how people gave this stuff up!

you better believe bought that wolf carved sling shot for her boyfriend.
(YES i just said boyfriend. and NO i didn't ever meet him and
YES, beth, i'm still upset at you because of it).

there is no picture of our time at the mall because we were maybe there for twenty minutes but boy was it a success! for some reason they had lots of great shoes on sale at urban (that i found out later shouldn't have been on sale) so this girl splurged and bought three pair!

i was happy until i remembered our next stop was the airport. so this is us being sad but happy inside that we got to see each other! my trip to DC was really so much fun and i'm very grateful for my sweet friends who pretty much dropped everything (even took work off a few days!) to be my tour guides.
love you lots dc girfs!

6.21.2012

i went to the district of columbia : day four

day four docket:
trolley tour

and we did just that! we were off to a bit of a rough start though, it turns out walking all day long the day before wore us gals right out! so we got into DC at the crack of noon and were ready to just hit this trolley tour so hard.
all of our trolley friends

sidenote: don't ever eat breakfast at subway. it may seem like a good idea, but it is not.

first stop on our trolley tour: THE ZOO

i thoroughly enjoyed creeping the animals/beth

we were spotted on the animal cam!!!

real sadness

"he'll have to do" - what the look on beth's face is saying

this zoo kept forgetting to have most animals but they remembered to have elephants!

cave hat!

i loved these so bad

hahahaha more real sadness,
for some reason we thought they might be hiding panda's in a different part of the panda house. we were wrong, as beth's face clearly expresses.

most confusing map.
i guess it is nice to have the "you are here" dot on the sign, but it might be more helpful to have it actually inside of the map. but, maybe not.

ever since i watched "rise of the planet of the apes" i feel obsessed with these little guys and just imagine them climbing the redwoods and being named caeser and their first word being "NO"

special moment

special moment #2

this guy wouldn't open his mouth for anyone except this girl (me).
he just opened it right up and loved me so much! buuut i told him i was only interested in just being friends.
the place where butterflies fly all over your face and it is real hot and steamy gross inside!

maybe there is a rule that all zoos have to have a tiger/lion drinking fountain. hogle zoo's wins though, sorry smithsonian institution national zoological park.

the zoo was way great and we spent way too much time there. sorry tour.

next up: national cathedral

best views from the top, and i felt like i was in a disney princess movie.
(and no brittany, i was not in a real disney princess movie you weirdo!)

and then : the u.s. capitol
(another one of those apictureisgoodenoughsoi'mnotactuallygoingtogetoffthetrolleytoseeit type of times)

but we really got out of the trolley this time because we had to : franklin d. roosevelt memorial

beth wouldn't let me take any of the touristy photos i wanted to take so i had to settle for taking pictures of other people taking those pictures:

(i mean can't you see me doing that exact pose on a rock?)

(why is franklin d. in the wizard of oz right now?)

we found our bff's again!!

you looked nice from afar: jefferson memorial

i love fourteen year olds : martin luther king jr. memorial

and lastly : those great hot dog slash ice cream stands that always look so fun and nice

the night ended with beth and i walking all over trying to decide on a place to eat and then eventually just heading back to thai place near her house. as soon as we sat down she got this little beth grin on her face and blurted out "and tonight i'm going to treat you!" like it was the biggest surprise that she finally just had to blurt out because she had been holding it in so long. and then she just laughed and laughed. it was a definite youhadtobethere moment but it was too good slash funny to me to not document. we ate our food asian style (which is my favorite. i wish it was fine with americans to just eat off of each others plates!) while we discussed our missions (she served in korea, the motherland) and the good old days and dating and life. i loved that chat. it was a very nice way to end a very nice day!
