izzy turned thirty so we went to vermont!

yes it is true. my cute friend izzy wanted to have a girl's weekend getaway to a spa and resort in Vermont. i was thrilled because i've been wanting to go to vermont forever! i always hear how dreamy it is and still have it on my fall time to-do list because apparently their foliage is the best.

anyway. the drive was SUPER foggy so to go with the mood of the weather we listened to bon iver and had nice conversations. it was so mystical and lovely.

by the time we got there the sun magically came out and it was the most beautiful day! it is not hard to believe that this resort is on the east coast. there was shutters everywhere, white siding, and early 1800's charm all over it. it was built over 200 years ago!

after everyone arrived we headed to a restaurant called thai basil, NOT to be confused with any other thai basil because their food was weird and they didn't even have chopsticks. luckily the company was nice and so was the delicious carrot cake izzy brought for another girl (she is maaaaybe the most thoughtful person in the world) whose birthday happened to be that weekend too.

we all thought it was going to be freezing but the weather was surprisingly delightful so we spent the rest of the afternoon shopping in quaint little manchester village.

when we got back to the resort everyone ended up doing their own thing for a few hours. some napped, some worked out, and the rest of us hit the steam room, sauna, and hot tub. i felt thrilled to wear that robe and was even more thrilled to wear my boots and look as out of place as possible.

that night izzy wanted us to get all dressed up and go out for fancy desserts so out of love for her we complied. as it turns out none of us were really fancy spa people but it was fun to see izzy be so happy about the whole experience.

and fancy desserts were a success! i had my first creme brulee and didn't even hate it!

i didn't know most of these girls very well before the trip so it was nice to spend time with them and just laugh and talk and enjoy each others company. while eating our dessert we all went around the table and said how izzy had made our lives better by knowing her. maybe it is a YSA culture thing but we tend to do that at every birthday event and i quite like it - it might be slightly cheesy but it is nice to tell people why you love/appreciate them.

aaaaand i just realized that this is the first picture izzy is in because she took the other ones (my camera died on the way up so we only had her cam) so i'll have to add a few of her when i have access to the photos again haha darn it!
(if you care to know she is the girl sitting right next to my left)

i just really liked "the equinox".
i mean, when we were walking back to our rooms these cute guys were playing in the lounge and passed so many great pictures they had on canvas all over the walls!

that night izzy wanted to play a game that was basically the same idea as a white elephant gift exchange but with a million nail polishes - that she bought haha (she also gave us all a gift bag when we arrived. seriously, that girl). it was a fun little game and i was happy because i had the BEST color in the end but one of the girls freaked out and thought i was hiding it or something (she wanted it but didn't pay attention to who had it and i didn't tell her i had it because the point of the game was to remember that stuff!) so i gave it to her so she could be an adult again/calm down. i could have probably left that this story out but maybe i'm still annoyed by it.

not pictured would be (probably) the best moment of the trip when i realized that everyone in my room knew and loved saturday's warrior which lead into an hour long sing-a-long with quotes from the movie in-between. i am always amazed/embarrassed at how much i can quote that thing for not seeing it in so many years.

izzy bought a nice camera for herself so sunday morning we went outside and i showed her how to use it in manual mode by having a photoshoot of each other. she did a pretty great job i think!

some stayed to ski the next day but most of us embarked on the three hour ride home which was so sunny and warm and happy and awesome. i will definitely be going back to vermont in the near (more realistically far) future, i will definitely be hanging out with those gals more often (watched the season finale of the bachelor monday night with them!), and i will definitely be buying myself a terry cloth robe.
