the art of thrifting

guys. first off let me say i have the cutest nieces in the world. emmy and mickayla are my idols and i wish i was more like them. emmy is 15 and mickayla is 17 but you wouldn't know it - they are both the oldest girls in their families and very mature for their ages. mickayla just graduated from high school a year early and is the smartest girl alive (and is going to major in chemistry at byu. bleeeek). emmy is a rockstar violinist and just finished being the editor of her ninth grade yearbook and is going into highschool in a few weeks. they are so funny and spiritual and well rounded and i just love being with them. it rarely happens since i'm in provo, emmy is in taylorsville, and mickayla is in texas so i was thrilled to get an entire morning and afternoon with them to myself!

one thing i have tried to instill in both of them is my love for a good deal so i took them "thrifting"
(which is really just a cool blogger way of saying we went to savers and deseret industries. saying the actual name of thrift stores kind of takes the glamour away doesn't? haha)

i also took them to guys discount which was such a great time in high school. i was beyond thrilled to see it was still alive and kicking!

and to see the exact same special 35 cent cards
and i definitely own both of those shirts. and in that baby size!
and yes i still shove myself in them every once awhile.
(grace or hayley - where do i find a picture of us in that tank shirt and our aviators?! i know we took pictures, i just have no idea where they would be)
i'm still so in love with how things are like ten cents there and nothing is made past 1970 i'm sure of it.
here is a side note. i bought these shoes (from a real store! not even thrifted) but hated the big camel colored shoe laces so after spending a few cents (literally) at guys discount i got those skinny dark brown babies! i feel they look much better, even though brynne likes the original ones.
(i just needed to throw that in there for ryan to see that we do have different opinions at times, just not about that bear girl in the whits)
anyway. woo! back to our thrifting adventures.

this was the day that everyone felt stressed about the high winds and rain so we couldn't leave the store for a long time. we felt fine about this. we also felt fine about coming out to get into mamma jan's van which we thought we parked in a parking lot

which turned out to be a small pond.
seriously?

we didn't mind though. we had all just made out like bandits. look at all those sacks!
(really though. this was maybe the most successful thrifting trip i've ever made. sooooo many gems)
my sisters warned them to not buy any grandma skirts just because aunt megan said they looked good (funny and yet so true). so i was cautious not to do so so these cuties made their purchases all by themselves. and yes, we really do all look like grandmas above but i've never been more proud.

let's face it.
classy 1980 is the new _______________ (insert whatever is supposedly cool these days)

Haha, I love that you acknowledged "thrifting" as a blogger's way of saying "going to savers or d.i." :) Thank you.

Best news ever I have been wanting to take Joe to guys but haven't found the right magical moment. Thank you for making my day with this post especially since I lost my tank shirt in hawaii, i just might have to go back. As for those pics they are in my scrapbook next time I go to the parents I will try and scan them and email them to you
